Blurry vision
Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 10:59PM I’ve said this before, but we’ve been on the road A LOT this year. A LOT. I snapped this picture somewhere between Chicago and Memphis—I had to do something to entertain myself while Eric was driving, and this was it. Imagine me hanging out the window, blinking back tears from the wind, trying to make sure my horizon was level. It was fun!

Anyway, here are the stats: ISO 100, 18mm, f/16, 1/40 second, at 80 mph.
I rarely shoot at f/16, but I was really trying to capture some of the motion blur, because that’s how I remember the trip. I needed to slow the shutter speed down a bit. I have some fun sharper ones without the blur, and maybe I’ll post those later.
We took the trip coming out of a really painful few weeks, and it was a beautiful time for us, but so much of that time is a blur for me. I needed the space away from home to find some clarity, and it seems that quite a bit of that came from the hours upon hours of watching the landscapes of rural middle America flow by. It was terribly boring at times, but then I started tuning in to the intense beauty of it all. This country is HUGE, and so very diverse—it’s all rather remarkable. The count down is on for our drive to Maine. That will be three days of even more landscapes, and I’m pretty excited.
What are your iconic visual memories? Does anything meaningful pop out to you when you think of a turning point in your life?
PS Thank you for the sweet comments yesterday! You’re all so wonderful, and I reckon I’ll just have to post up a Snuggie picture after all, hah! Maybe this weekend?

OOOH I LIKE THIS A LOT. this would make good desktop wallpaper. the clouds look unreal
The blur makes the photo - I love how you've captured the motion, and a great metaphor to boot.
That picture is gorgeous. The color is amazing on it....just everything about it sings.
This is so iconic of childhood trips in the back seat, I need a Dramamine!
Pretty! That's ridiculous you leaned out the window to take that!
That picture is amazing.
Love the blur. This shot really draws the eye in. Don't think I've ever shot anything at f/16! I've traveled the world, but you know there is so much diversity within the US in terms of culture, landscape, architecture etc., that I've yet to really *see* all of my own county.
I love the photo! So gorgeous! I take blurry photos on purpose too and they never turn out this good. The colors are just popping! You should take more drive by photos! Amazing work!
WOW I really LOVE that picture. It'd be a great fall desktop background picture!
I really wish the world was that colorful. And yes, you'll have to take a picture of you in your snuggie! :)
