The Life Display Story

Genoa, Italy—1550s

While Spain was seeking New World riches, Michaelangelo worked on Sistine Chapel, Sofonisba Anguissola was one of the few well-known female artists.

At the time, if you were an artist who wanted to survive, you convinced wealthy men to hire you to improve their status by painting them into bibilical scenes or the Church paid you to create images of biblical stories. This was in part so those who couldn’t read could understand the meaning. Anything personally meaningful or for fun was considered a sketch or practice.

If you wanted to paint complex scenes you had to study human anatomy through dissection and study live nude models, and both subjects of study were forbidden to women.

Instead Sofonisba did something totally new for the time: she painted her family as they were, doing things they did. She, more than the wealthiest men of Italy immortalized her family’s dynamics. Her family’s story is still known and felt now through her paintings, hundreds of years later.

She painted an immortal scene of her family.

Their life display rocks.

My goal is to get an immortal scene of your life on your wall.

How meaningful do you want your decor to be?

My life displays take the form of a family album on the wall, 4 parts character shots and 1 part immortal scene.
